Recap of the Week and Test Prep

Hello sweet friends!  Just here to let you know what is going on in our classroom this week.  And it has been a long one!  I am not used to these 5 day weeks!!!

I got this idea from Cara’s Thanksgiving post.  We read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick and made these girls.  We are working on main idea again, so they wrote the main idea of the story.

I can’t remember which blog Rayann got this from, but it was a great activity to show transformations.  I will ask her tomorrow and link back to them.

Like I said, we are working on main idea, AGAIN.  This is a mobile one little one made about Pig’s Egg.

This is the Main Idea Mix-Up game in the packet that has them identify the main idea in a short story.

I tried this yesterday to help them remember the vowel patterns.  They wrote the vowel pattern in each word a different color.  They thought this was so fun!  {It doesn’t take much, apparently. ;)}

We will be making this guy and gal on Friday.  We have one more full week until Stanford testing, so we are making these to hopefully motivate us all to ROCK OUT THE TEST!  I will let you know how they turn out.  I posted the packet in my store tonight.

We like to also throw an ice cream sundae party with ALL the toppings at the end of test.  We tell them that if we see them working really hard and doing their best, they get to participate.  They are ALL about it, too!  Our school also does treat bags each day with a theme.  So fun!  What do you do to prepare and motivate your students during testing time?  Can’t wait to hear your advice!
