MLK Jr., Word Work, and a Sock Hop

Just dropping in to give you some ideas for MLK Jr. celebrations this week.  I made this bulletin board one year and LOVED the way it turned out.  The students wrote what they dreamed of being when they grow up.  I then typed them up.  I took their pictures and printed them in black and white.  I got the idea here.

Here are some things I plan on doing this week that I found on some fabulous blogs:

This one is a freebie from Flying into First Grade.  Super cute!

Elementary Matters has some great links and books to use, as well.

On another note, I have started incorporating busy baskets into my day.  I can't wait to share these with you.  I am trying to get a few more activities together before I share these with you.  I use them for math and here is one of the activities that will be in them.  You can grab it {HERE} for free.

I am also working on getting ready for the annual 2nd grade sock hop!  I am working on updating that little packet, too, and making some centers to get them geared up for it.  I have been looking on Pinterest for some ideas on spicing it up.  February is such a busy month!  Between dental month, groundhog day, Valentine's Day, and President's Day, I can't keep up!  In the meantime, if you want to see what we did for our sock hop last year, you can read about it {HERE} and grab the FREEBIE for it {HERE}.  If you have downloaded it before, I have made lots of revisions so download it again.

And for all my Treasures friends, my latest word work packet is up for Splish, Splash, Animal Baths.  The focus is ar and or, so we are sORting with the stARs!!  So fun!  I am also not using the story this week.  I am using the three different versions of The Three Little Pigs to compare and contrast.  I'll have a post about that later in the week.

Have a fabulous week!!!
